About our Teachers 2017 & 2018
Sunny Young ERYT 500
Founder, Program Director
Sunny has been professionally active within the fitness and performing arts for more than 30 years, and has been teaching yoga since 2006. After a car accident in 2004 her once very active lifestyle came to a halt. She struggled daily with back, hip, and shoulder pain. Chronic pain led to added health problems and depression. With her background in dance and fitness Sunny decided to implement yoga into her rehabilitation (enter Carina Terra). The results were life changing. With the encouragement of her husband, she decided to teach yoga with the goal to share it's amazing healing benefits with others. Over the years she has developed programs that offer safe options for most all levels, including those with special challenges, (seniors, cancer, fibromyalgia, arthritis, sports injuries, and PTSD). Her "step outside of the box" programs are highly creative and inspiring. Sunny is a certified RYT 500 of the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. As of 2016 she has accumulated m1ore than 10,000 hours of teaching experience in yoga. Among her teachers and inspiration are Don and Amba Stapleton, Rodney Yee, Tara Fraser, Shiva Rea, Aaron Gandhi, and many others. Sunny has been the primary yoga instructor for Pierce College in Puyallup, WA since 2007. Over the years she has instructed in fitness facilities, hospitals, senior centers, assisted living, and yoga studios, and has owned and operated a variety of businesses. Sunny also offers private and small group instruction. Her companies Yoga Sun and Atma Yoga Sun offer workshops, trainings, and retreats worldwide. Read more TRAININGS/RETREATS
Carina Terra, ERYT 500
Lead Teacher - Training & Education
Carina's journey with yoga began more than 12 years ago. After leaving corporate America Carina opened Hot Yoga of Issaquah which thrived for many years. In 2013 she decided to leave behind the rigorous routine of a studio owner and began teaching in other studios within the Seattle area. Carina is a gifted instructor with extensive experience in teaching yoga. Her journey began after 11 years of studying dance, particularly ballet. She studied yoga therapy at the university of Sao Paulo in Brazil, with Professor Marcos Rojo Rodrigues, a disciple of Swami Kuvalayananda, the great pioneer of yoga therapy and scientific study of yoga. She has studied and trained with Baron Baptiste, Shiva Rea, Rod Stryker, Tias Little, and many more. Her multi-interdisciplinary approach to yoga is accessible to students of all ages and levels of ability. Carina looks forward to focusing her energy on training other teachers, leading yoga retreats, and sharing her passion for yoga with a broader community. Her classes are nurturing, insightful, and fun! AYS is blessed to have Carina as a lead teacher and beloved friend. (We love you Carina!)
We enjoy bringing a variety of talent and teaching styles to our trainings with guest teachers.
Kathy Wyatt, 200 Hour RYT
Atma Yoga Graduate 2015
Guest Teacher 2016
Kathy began her yoga journey in 1998. Practicing for several years, she decided to become a yoga instructor. She has recently graduated from ATMA July 2016 and is currently exploring her yoga journey in Yin and chair yoga. Kathy believes we need to remind ourselves that it is not about being good at yoga. Isn't about accomplishing that "perfect" pose. It is all about the journey, every step, every second, and every breath. (Yoga) is about connecting with oneself and embracing the unknown. Finding your TRUE SELF!
